Thursday 22nd November 2007

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, depending on where you are in the world.

Another Thursday, another update.

This weeks update is Cothelstone and it's one of those places that you just find rather than go to. When I took the pictures I'd just finished a set at Spaxton and was on my way to Bishops Lydeard when, out of nowhere, Cothelston Manor appeared. I stopped at the Gate House (Shown in the first two pictures) where the gent who lived there explained what he knew of the history of the house. He explained that the three arched entrance to the drive used to be set across the main highway and was moved to protect it from modern traffic. He also said that 3 rebels were hung from the archway on the orders of Judge Jeffreys after the Battle of Sedgemoor but I can find no contemporary evidence of this, so did not include it on the web site notes.

It just goes to show what can be found once you make an effort to explore the countryside around you.

More next week. Have a good weekend.
